Five kinds of news channel

Global broadcasters

The BBC, Al Jazeera and Reuters all run Telegram channels covering international news as it breaks. @bbcrussian is the largest single entry in this list, at over 387,000 subscribers, and is one of the few independent Russian-language news sources still widely reachable.

Wire services

Wire services supply the raw reporting that thousands of outlets then rewrite. Reading their Telegram channels gets you that reporting without a publisher's framing added on top. The trade-off is volume: a wire feed posts far more often than a newspaper.

Business and financial news

Bloomberg posts market updates and economic data releases through the trading day, so the channel is fast and frequent. The Financial Times posts less and analyses more. Which suits you depends on whether you are tracking a market or trying to understand one.

What the labels mean

Official means the organisation runs the channel itself. Unofficial means somebody else reposts its content, sometimes alongside paid posts. State-funded means a government pays for it. Where an entry has no label, we could not establish which it is, and the absence is not a verdict either way. All three kinds are listed, because a reader is better served knowing what a source is than having it quietly left out.
